Hanwha defeats Kiwoom on the mound…Kim Ki-jung gets his first start in 739 days

The Hanwha Eagles pounded the Kiwoom Heroes for a nine-run sweep.

Hanwha won the first game of a doubleheader against Kiwoom in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League 11-2 on Monday at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

Both teams utilized “bullpen days,” which resulted in starkly different outcomes.

Hanwha starter Kim Ki-joong pitched five innings of seven-hit ball with two strikeouts and two walks, earning his first win in nearly two years since August 31, 2021, against KT WIZ.

On offense, Noh Si-hwan led the way with a 3-for-6 performance and two RBIs, while Moon Hyun-bin (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) also contributed.

Kiwoom, on the other hand, was dominated by starter Kim Dong-hyuk (3 innings, 7 hits, 2 walks, 6 runs) and second pitcher Kim Dong-kyu (0 innings, 2 hits, 4 walks, 5 runs).

Hanwha opened the scoring in the first inning with a leadoff triple by Moon Hyun-bin and an infield single by Chae Eun-sung two batters later.

In the second inning, they scored four runs.

Kiwoom starter Kim Dong-hyuk gave up a walk and a hit-by-pitch to the first two batters to put runners on first and second.

Hanwha loaded the bases one out later when Jang Jin-hyuk singled to left and Moon Hyun-bin doubled down the right field line.메이저놀이터

After Nick Williams was retired on a grounder to the first baseman, Noh Si-hwan singled to left to bring runners to second and third.

Hanwha added a run in the third on a triple to left-center by Choi In-ho and a single to left by Oh Sun-jin.

In the process, Kiwoom left fielder Park Chan-hyuk fumbled one of Choi In-ho’s balls and the replay was not quick enough.

Kim Dong-kyu, the second pitcher to take over in the top of the fourth inning, went down in flames.

After giving up a leadoff single to Noh Si-hwan, Kim gave up four straight walks and two wild pitches to quickly surrender three runs.

After giving up a double to Choi Jae-hoon, he was pulled from the game without recording a single out.

Kiwoom broke through in the fifth with three straight singles from Ronnie Dawson, Lee Hyung-jong and Kim Tae-jin, and Kim Hye-sung made a quick infield hit to put runners on second and third.

The saving grace for Kiwoom was bullpen Lee Jong-min, who threw a career-high 77 pitches over four innings starting in the sixth, giving up five hits and striking out three.
